Anti-Corruption activist Agnes Kharshiing attacked in Meghalaya

Shillong, November 8: Anti-corruption and women’s rights activist of Meghalaya, Agnes Kharshiing, is critical after she was brutally attacked by unidentified persons on Thursday.

The incident took place in East Jaintia Hills, about 120 kilometres from Shillong.

Kharshiing is also the president of Civil Society Women’s Organization.

As per reports, the social activist sustained severe head injuries. She was rushed to the Lalong Public Health Centre but now has been reportedly shifted to Guwahati.

The Meghalaya Police has confirmed the attack on the social activist. It is suspected that she was attacked by coal mafias of the region as the attack came a day after she lodged a complaint against a coal-laden trucks parked at Mawiong rim in Shillong.

The RTI activist had been vocal against rampant illegal coal syndicate in the state for the last couple of years.
