Anti-Extortion cell established at Ribhoi district to safeguard businessmen

Ribhoi, December 4: To prevent extortion in the region, Meghalaya Police along with District administration has established an Anti-Extortion Cell in Ribhoi District in Meghalaya.

The cell will be headed by the Deputy Superintendent of Police along with a team of officers from the department. The police department has called a meeting today at Nongpoh Police Station which has been attended by Deputy Commissioner, SP of Ribhoi district and by over hundred businessmen.

The purpose of setting up an Anti-extortion cell is to prevent the collection of huge amount of money by anti-social elements from businessmen, petrol pumps, shopkeepers and others in the name of NGOs or gates.

According to DC of  Ribhoi district C P Gotmare, this initiative will help to build up the confidence of businessman in the region and will encourage them to lodge complaints against any such illegal demands.

SP of Ribhoi district further encouraged the people from the business community to extend support to the Police department by coming forward and sharing information of any such act with the Police. Contact numbers of senior Police officers had been shared with the businessmen. SP also focused on the need for rule of law and ensuring law and order in the district.
