APCC demands CBI probe into Minority Students’ Scholarship Scheme Scam

APCC minority wing alleged that approx Rs.500 cores of government fund were swindled

Guwahati, 30: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), minority department, stated a dharna on Thursday seeking CBI Inquiry against an alleged corruption in the distribution of ‘minority students’ scholarship scheme’ in the state.

The chairman of the minority cell, Salman Khan alleged that it was one of the biggest scams in the history of Assam and approx Rs.500 cores of government fund were swindled in the scam.

There were reports that scholarships meant for minority students were swindled by corrupt officials in the name of ‘ghost’ beneficiaries or students who don’t even exist.

He blamed the chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal of trying to put a blind eye to the corruption and had not taken any action as several BJP leaders were allegedly involved.

“It’s surprising why CM vigilance Cell in Assam is not taking any suo-moto action against the wrongdoers,” he added.

The APCC protesters said that the BJP ruled state government has been involved in large scale corruption to gather money in the run-up to the state polls slated next year.
