Army Major from Maharashtra dies in Arunachal Pradesh camp fire

Itanagar, January 2: An Army Major from Virar city of Maharashtra died in a fire in Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday. The fire broke out in the army camp in Tawang around 6:30 am on December 30.

The Army Major has been identified as Major Prasad Mahadik (31) who originally hailed from Guhagar in Ratnagiri district. The deceased’s body reached Virar today morning and the funeral was held at 11 am. Virar city has been put up hoardings offering respect to the deceased soldier.

The fire broke out in a shelter occupied by Mahadik, in the Tawang camp where he was posted since October last year.  He reportedly died of burn injuries.

Narendra Vispute, Defence spokesperson in Mumbai, confirmed that the body belonged to Mahadik.

Mahadik is survived by his wife and parents.
