Army Nabs suspected NSCN-IM Cadre from Namtola

Sonari/Guwahati, March 13: On Tuesday morning, a team of Army and Police apprehended one suspected cadre of the NSCN-IM along with arms and ammunition from Namtola near the Assam-Nagaland border.

According to sources, an operation was carried during the wee hours of Tuesday by a team of Army and Police after receiving specific inputs about the movement of a suspected cadre of the NSCN-IM near the Assam-Nagaland Border. During the operation, the team succeeded in apprehending one person identified as SS Lt Laipa Konyak alias Aloi Konyak aged about 40 years and a resident Mon district in Nagaland.

Army sources stated that the ‘insurgent’ was moving towards Assam via Mon-Tizit-Sonari Namtola axis to carry out subversive activities.

The Army sources stated that there had been a continuous movement of insurgents in the bordering areas of Assam-Nagaland after the Nagaland election and so the area was kept under strict vigilance and surveillance by security forces.

The source further stated that there was a specific input of presence of a ‘dreaded’ cadre near Namtola gaon. Army along with the police without wasting much time launched an operation to apprehend the suspected cadre.

The joint operation of Army and police led to the apprehension of the cadre and recoveries of one 0.22 pistol, three live rounds, one wallet, one ATM card and Rs 8500 cash.

The suspected cadre was apprehended in a well-executed operation of Army and after joint interrogation, he was handed over to the Namtola Police.
