    Arrested DIG Rounak Ali Hazarika’s ‘disproportionate’ assets is found to be 164.80 %

    Hazarika incurred expenditure to the tune of Rs. 1,74,12,974 as educational expenditure of his two children till date

    Guwahati: Arrested Assam Police deputy inspector general (Border), Rounak Ali Hazarika, has disproportionate assets of around 164.80 percent, said preliminary investigation by the CM’s special vigilance cell.

    Hazarika was arrested on Tuesday by the cell on charges of having disproportionate assets. The vigilance cell found that his assets were out of sync (many fold higher) with his legal sources of income.

    However, the exact worth of Hazarika’s asset was not revealed yet by the cell.

    During enquiry it was found that Hazarika had possessed immovable and movable assets which were disproportionate to his known sources of income during the period from 1992 to 2021 while he was posted in Bongaigaon district.

    “It was also found that Raunak Ali Hazarika, incurred expenditure to the tune of Rs. 1,74,12,974 as educational expenditure of his two children till date. International travel history of Rounak Ali Hazarika, has been collected and it reveals that he had left the country and travelled abroad 9 (Nine) times without permission from competent authority,” said the cell in an official statement.

    Apart from salary account in State Bank of India, suspect officer and his family members have accounts in Axis Bank, Yes Bank etc. and huge amounts were found to be deposited in cash during the period of 2019-2021.

    The cell said that the facts and circumstances were sufficient evidences against Hazarika, for intentionally enriching himself illicitly during the period of his office which is in contravention to Section 2(c) of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act 2018. He being a public servant is in possession of disproportionate assets which is a criminal misconduct under Section 13(1) (b) of the PC (Amendment) Act 2018, it added.

    Moreover, he was unable to satisfactorily account for how he could amass the pecuniary resources (cash deposits/cheque deposits in his bank accounts from unknown sources during the period of 2019-2020) which is disproportionate to his known sources of income.

    “The percentage of his disproportionate assets is found to be 164.80 %. The inventory memo is being prepared and sufficient corroborative evidences like foreign currencies have been recovered from his residence, ” said the statement.

    Pictures released by the vigilance cell showed Hazarika of allegedly possessing several top notch properties including a resort in Shimla.
