Arrested leader of the Lachit Sena, Shrinkhal Chaliha met his mother along with other family members in Barpeta District Jail on December 31st, 2019.
Speaking to the media persons, Rakajyoti Chaliha, Shrinkhal’s mother, said, “He (Shrinkhal) has been shifted to Barpeta District Jail to harass the family and nothing else. But, this will not put an end to the agitation against the amended act. Government’s dictatorial policy will not work.”

Shrinkhal was arrested in Dibrugarh on December 23rd, 2019 and sent to two-day Criminal Investigation Department (CID) custody by the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kamrup (Metro) on December 26th, 2019. The court had rejected the plea made by the CID for five-day custody.
He was sent to nine-day judicial custody by the court on December 28th, 2019 and shifted to Barpeta District Jail on December 29th, 2019.

On December 26th, 2019, the CID of Assam Police conducted a raid at the residence of Shrinkhal at Phukan Nagar, Sivasagar. The raid was conducted from 6:45 am. The officials interrogated his family members and have also seized the mobile handset of his mother.

A case (No 30/2019) against under Sections 120(B), 120(A), 121, 121(A), 122, 123, 143, 147, 148, 150, 152, 153, 153(A), 326, 333 and 353 of the Indian Penal Code was registered against Shrinkhal.
