Guwahati : Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu on Saturday wished Manipur’s Bala Devi for her first-ever match with the foreign football club – Scottish Club ‘Rangers FC’.
Taking to Twitter, the chief minister wrote: “Ms Bala Devi from Manipur is the first Indian women to sign up for a foreign football club – Scottish giant ‘Rangers FC’. Best wishes to her for the upcoming Scottish Women’s Premier League starting from 18th October.”
The 29-year-old Manipuri striker made history by becoming the first-ever Indian woman footballer to bag a professional contract from a foreign club.
Devi is among a group of 14 new players signed by the Scottish club. Currently donning the number 10 jersey for the Rangers’ women’s side, she made the switch to Scotland in March 2020.
The Scottish Women Premier League is to kick start from October 18.
