Arunachal Holds First-Ever Plastic-Free Cabinet Meeting, Netizens Hail Decision

Embracing steps towards a plastic-free future, the Arunachal Pradesh government on September 17th, 2019 held the first-ever plastic-free cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pema Khandu.

Khandu took to his Twitter and wrote, “Towards #PlasticFree future | Doing away with #plastic water bottles in office. The first plastic-free cabinet meeting held today. Use of water flasks instead of single-use plastic bottles. The encouragement towards making office plastic-free came from our own citizens!”

Meanwhile, in the cabinet meeting, several decisions were taken on approving one-time financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh to Scheduled Tribes students who clear prelims examinations and an amount of Rs 3 lakh for those who clear mains of UPSC examination.

A decision was taken to encourage sericulture activities in the state

Also, to encourage sericulture activities in the state, the cabinet decided to create a separate Directorate of Sericulture. The Directorate will have 94 officials including a Director and Joint Director level officers.

In the meeting, a decision was also taken to adopt the pattern of UPSC civil service examination for the APPSCCE examinations.

A special remission will be granted to five prisoners as part of the commemoration of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
