Guwahati: The tribal people of Jutulibari Tea Estate in Duliajan’s Naoholia on Saturday expressed strong disappointment over the sudden death of two labourers at Sera Talu area of Kurung Kumey district in Arunachal Pradesh.

According to the tribal people of Jutulibari Tea Estate, an alleged contractor hired at least 15 labourers from the Jutulibari Tea Estate on the pretext of work in Arunachal Pradesh.

Later, two out of the 15 labourers fell ill and were accordingly they were shifted to a PHC in the Sera Talu area in Arunachal Pradesh, however, the doctors declared them brought dead.

The two deceased were identified as Ashiq Sabasi (23) and Gopi Garh (25).

A pall of gloom descended on Jutulibari Tea Estate after the mortal remains of the two labourers reached their native place on Saturday.

Meanwhile, family members alleged that both the labourers died after being subjected to bullying and harassment by the contractor in Arunachal Pradesh.

It is learned that Duliajan police had sent the two bodies to Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh for postmortem.

Police are continuing their investigation in connection with the incident and are still trying to rescue other workers trapped in Arunachal Pradesh.
