India’s  Hima Das pulled out of the women’s 400m heat in the Asian Athletics Championships at the Khalifa International Stadium, Doha on April 21st, 2019. The 19-year-old had to retire from her sprint with a back problem.

Hima had a breakthrough 2018 when she won a 400m gold at the World U20 Championships before she claimed silver in the same category at the Asian Games.

Hima has not been at her best after she took a break to prepare for her HS examinations before coming back to win the Federation Cup with a 52.88 seconds.

“She had spasm at L4 and L5. The doctor who attended her informed us that she will be okay within a day or two,” said Radhakrishnan Nair, Deputy Chief Coach, India.

The reigning world junior champion, who holds the national record of 50.79, won the gold in the Federation Cup on March 18th 2019.
