Guwahati: The eight Asiatic lions in Nehru Zoological Park (NZP) in Hyderabad, which tested positive for the SARs-CoV2 virus, have responded well to the treatment and are recovering.
“Preventive measures are already in place for all zoo staff and the zoo has been closed to visitors to avoid minimal external contact,” a release stated.
Central Zoo Authority has taken several pre-emptive measures including the issuance of guidelines and advisories to the zoos towards precautions to be undertaken by zoos in the light of the increasing number of cases of SARS CoV-2.
The analyses of samples further revealed that the infection was not caused by any variant of concern to human beings.
The lions are behaving normally and eating well. Preventive measures are already in place for all staff, with the zoo being closed down to avoid minimal external contact, the Centre has said.
“Media is, therefore, requested to exercise extreme caution while reporting and provide a responsible coverage for the same,” the release further added.
