Assam: 4 ACS Officers Suspended For MP’s MPLAD Fund Irregularities

Guwahati: At least four Assam Civil Service (ACS) officers were suspended on Saturday for alleged financial irregularities in the execution of works under the MP Local Area Development Fund (MPLAD).

A fund was allocated from Rajya Sabha MP Ajit Kumar Bhuyan’s MPLAD fund for the construction of a road in Assam’s Barpeta.

The CM’s Special Vigilance Cell carried out an enquiry into the allegations and detected “irregularities and anomalies” in the execution of works and utilisation of funds of MP Ajit Kumar Bhuyan for 2021-22 and 2022-23.

As per official, all the officers have been placed under immediate suspension, pending drawal of departmental proceedings.

Among the suspended officer is Sharmistha Borah, deputy secretary in the Home and Political department, who was the president of the construction committee.

The additional deputy commissioner and the assistant commissioner of Kamrup Metropolitan, Sukanya Bora and Hemanta Kumar Dutta, who were also presidents of the construction committee, have been placed under suspension.

Munindra Bardoloi, currently the chief executive officer of Zilla parishad, Tinsukia, was also suspended for his purported involvement as the then in-charge of the district development commissioner of Kamrup Metropolitan district.

According to sources that the bill was released without the completion of 75% of the work.

Meanwhile, an amount of Rs. 28 lakhs was allocated from the Rajya Sabha MP Ajit Kumar Bhuyan’s MPLAD Fund for the construction of three roads in Barpeta, sources claimed.

However, the roads were not constructed, and the allocated funds were withdrawn by submitting fake road construction bills.
