Guwahati: At least five unregistered dental clinics have been sealed by the district administration following a special drive in Assam’s Karimganj.

On the basis of complaints made by various dentists, the administration has started an operation against phony dentists.

Following the operation, as many as five private dental clinics were shut down by a team led by Additional District Magistrate Bikram Chasa and Joint Director of Health Services Dr. Samsul Alam for violations including operating without registration or appropriate documentation.

The team carried out on three other private nursing homes in Karimganj on Friday and a lot of discrepancies were found.

Meanwhile, the administration has sealed the chambers of Sagar Dey, Z Islam, M H Laskar, A Rahman, R Ahmed, R Laskar.

Local claimed that for the last 30 years, Sagar Dey and M H Laskar had been practicing without any proper registration.

According to the official, all the papers have been seized and action will be taken after examining them. The drive against illegal clinics will continue and nobody would be permitted to work without the proper registration.

In the interest of the patient and public safety, anyone caught engaging in illegal activities will be booked, official added. “Although we have not yet filed FIRs against the clinics, we have given the deputy commissioner our reports. According to the deputy commissioner’s instructions, additional action will be taken,” the official said.
