Guwahati: In a tragic incident, at least seven people were killed while several others were injured in a road accident in Guwahati’s Jalukbari area on Sunday night, police officials said.
According to police, the deceased are said to be students of 3rd year from Assam Engineering College (AEC).
The road accident occurred after the driver of the Scorpio car, on which students were travelling, lost control and hit a divider before hitting a Bolero DI pickup van, which was coming from Guwahati on the opposite lane, official said.
As per the official, ten persons were there inside the vehicle when the accident took place. Out of the ten, seven died on the spot while three others were immediately rushed to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in critical condition.
The deceased have been identified as Arindam Bhowal and Niyor Deka from Guwahati, Kaushik Mohan from Sivasagar, Upangshu Sarmah from Nagaon, Raj Kiran Bhuyan from Majuli, Emon Barua from Dibrugarh and Kaushik Baruah from Mangaldoi.
Meanwhile, the three persons in the DI vehicle were also brought to GMCH for immediate treatment. Out of the alive 6 persons one is critical but the other 5 are stable as stated by attending GMCH doctors, official said.
