Assam: AASU stages protests all over state during PM Modi’s visit
Guwahati: The All Assam Students’ Union on Monday opposed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Assam owing to the Center’s failure in implementing Clause 6 of the Assam Accord.
To register their protests, the students’ organisation wore black badges and waved black flags during Modi’s visit.
The Clause 6 of the Accord, signed in August 1985 to end a bloody, six-year agitation for ejecting “illegal-immigrants”, seeks to guarantee constitutional safeguards for the Assamese and other indigenous community.
The state-wide protest have been observed in various districts of Assam including, Morigaon, Golaghat, Mangaldai, Dibrugarh and many more.
In Guwahati, the students agitated in the Dighali Pukhuri area of the city. The AASU have also demanded to address issues related to bid dams, and t solve the problem of flood and erosion in the state.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the state for the third time in a month on Monday and launched five major projects in the state of worth more than Rs 3,000 crore.
