Guwahati: An AK-47 rifle and a magazine were recovered from an Agartala bound train at Lumding station in Assam’s Hojai district by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP), official said onThursday.
During joint patrolling by RPF and GRP personnel on Tuesday night at around 8:45 pm, a suspicious bag in the Agartala bound 15625 Down train was observed at Lumding railway station, official said.
When security personnel inquired about the bag, a young man sitting close claimed it is a blanket and jumped off the train toward the non-platform side, official claimed.
Probably, the man was followed by railway police but he was able to flee due to the massive crowds and devotees of Shitala Puja at Lumding station.
The railway police recovered one AK-47 rifle and one magazine from the luggage during the search, official stated.
Furthermore, the railway police have examined CCTV footage in order to locate the individual.
A complaint has been filed at Lumding GRP, under Section 25(a) of the Arms Act.
