Guwahati: In a recent development, activist Akhil Gogoi has been appointed as the president of the newly floated party ‘Raijor Dal’.
The announcement of the jailed firebrand farmer’s leader as the president came in the wee hours of Saturday after the second day of the party’s maiden state convention came to an end.
The three-day state convention of Raijor Dal began on January 7, 2021 at Moran in Dibrugarh district of Assam, where noted filmmaker Padma Bhusan Jahnu Baruah hoisted the party’s flag and everyone paid tribute to the martyrs of anti-CAA agitation in Assam.
The meetings were presided over by Tulsi Das, president of the organising committee.
Dr Hiren Gogoi has been appointed as the chief advisor of the party.
Meanwhile, KMSS leader Bhasko D Saikia, Kabindra Chetia Phukan and Jitul Deka have been inducted as executive president of the party.
However, the Guwahati High Court on Thursday rejected the bail petition of Akhil Gogoi in connectiuon with his alleged role in the violence during the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests.
Raijor Dal was officially launched by Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) on October 2, 2020, with an aim to transform the socio-economic scene of the state and bring change and development.
During the ongoing convention, the newly floated party held lengthy sessions with intellectuals, social scientists, educationists and prominent leaders on the second day of its convention on Friday.
