Guwahati: The district magistrate of the Baksa district on Saturday has ordered to close all the bi-weekly, weekly markets in the districts in view of the rising COVID-19 cases.
It is mentioned in the order that, the markets in the district have been witnessing a huge number of gatherings. Apart from local villagers, adjacent villages also come to the market and a large number of traders, businessmen from outside those areas also come to the markets for trade.
Earlier, the district administration issued order asking the people to maintain social distancing, avoid crowding but no effect of the order was seen during the weekly markets, the order mentioned.
“This order shall come into force and remain in force until further orders,” it stated.
Moreover, any person violating the order will be liable to be proceeded against as per provisions of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, besides legal action/penalty as per IPC and other legal provisions as applicable.
