Assam: Arrested DIG Raunak Ali Hazarika discharged from GMCH
Guwahati: Arrested Assam Police deputy inspector general (Border), Rounak Ali Hazarika was discharged from Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Wednesday.
According to the GMCH authorities, Hazarika currently has no health issues. He was admitted to the GMCH on October 7 by the police after he complained of heart-related issues.
Immediately after his release, the suspended cop was taken to custody by the Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell who was granted with a 10 day remand of Hazarika on last Wednesday.
The CM vigilance cell had arrested him on October 5 from his residence in Guwahati for allegedly amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Preliminary probe revealed that Hazarika has disproportionate assets of around 164.80 percent.
During enquiry it was found that Hazarika had possessed immovable and movable assets which were disproportionate to his known sources of income during the period from 1992 to 2021 while he was posted in Bongaigaon district.
“It was also found that Raunak Ali Hazarika, incurred expenditure to the tune of Rs. 1,74,12,974 as educational expenditure of his two children till date. International travel history of Rounak Ali Hazarika, has been collected and it reveals that he had left the country and travelled abroad 9 (Nine) times without permission from competent authority,” said the cell in an official statement.
