    Assam-Arunachal border tension: Co-ordination meeting fruitful

    Dhruba Pathak, (21), was gunned down by a miscreant of Arunachal Pradesh at Ningking area of the state, while he was on his way to Tuting.

    Guwahati: A co-ordination meeting with DC and SP of eight districts of Arunachal and DC and SP of Dhemaji which was held at Pasighat on November 20 was fruitful, reveals Dhemaji Police on Sunday.

    “All officers unanimously condemned the sad incident of murder of Lt Dhruba Pathak of Likabali, DGP, Arunachal Sir assured us regarding prompt and proper chargesheet of the arrested accused, asking for maximum punishment for the arrested accused,” a notice released by Dhemaji Police stated.

    “The DCs of Arunachal Pradesh assured several welfare measures for the drivers and passengers from Assam including secure stoppage areas with washroom, kitchen and medical facilities, coverage of mobile network along stretches on highway, repairing of roads etc. Matter of extending ex gratia to the family of victim has been taken up with Itanagar by the DC Yingkiong,” it further stated.

    A tense situation prevailed along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border in Lakabali area over an incident of killing an innocent truck driver hailing from Assam in Arunachal Pradesh by a goon on November 14.

    Dhruba Pathak, (21), was gunned down by a miscreant of Arunachal Pradesh at Ningking area of the state, while he was on his way to Tuting by driving a truck.

    As per reports, the shooting incident took place after the truck scraped against a motorcycle on the road, following which the motorcycle rider immediately shot the truck driver dead.

    The accused, Tenjing Panging, has since been arrested by Arunachal Pradesh police.

    After the incident, thousands of Assamese people along with local truck drivers staged a road blockade on the border road at Likabali.

    The authorities of Assam’s Dhemaji district and their counterparts in seven districts of Arunachal Pradesh, including East Siang, met to defuse the tension.
