Guwahati: At least 15 shops were gutted after a major fire broke out at a market at Sontali in Assam’s Kamrup (R) district on Friday.

The incident took place at Dekasang bazaar in the district. As per sources, a short circuit is suspected to be the reason behind the fire, however, the exact cause is yet to be determined.

No casualties have been reported so far, sources said. However, goods worth crores have been burnt to ashes, and 15 shops completely ruined. The sources further added that several business establishments including a mobile and TV repairing shop, car parts shop, a pharmacy as well as a Common Service Centre (CSC) of Punjab National Bank were gutted in the fire.

The sources claimed that the locals successfully doused the flames.

However, some locals alleged that the fire tender had arrived at the spot after the fire was extinguished.
