The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party celebrated its massive victory in the by-election by bursting crackers, distributing sweets and dancing at the state head office at Guwahati’s Hengarabari.
The saffron party won Ratabri, Rangapara and Sonari legislative constituency. Bijoy Malakar defeated Congress candidate Keshab Prasad Rajak in Ratabari while Rajen Borthakur defeated Congress candidate Kartik Kurmi in Rangapara and Nabanita Handique defeated Congress candidate Sushil Kumar Suri in Sonari constituency. However, the BJP lost the Jania seat.
Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed happiness at the party’s victory in the by-election. “Happy that we retained all 3 assembly seats of Assam – Rangapara, Ratabari & Sonari by huge margins. Grateful to people of Assam for your continued faith in vision of PM Sri narendramodi (sic),” Sarma tweeted.

A total of 6,77,367 electors had exercised their franchise in 830 polling booths to decide the fate of 20 candidates in the by-polls held on October 21st, 2019 in four constituencies of the state. All four constituencies fell vacant after the 17th Lok Sabha election held this year.
