Guwahati: In a major crackdown, a leader of the BJP was arrested on alleged fraud charges and money extortion in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district on Wednesday.
The accused has been identified as Moon Ingtipi, the secretary of BJP’s Kisan Morcha in the district.
According to sources, the incident came to light when Ingtipi allegedly extorted a large amount of money from several people under the pretext of providing jobs and an Entry Tax Gate of KAAC.
Ingtipi has allegedly extorted around Rs 9.52 crore from various individuals who were longing for a job, sources stated.
Based on the complaints by the victims, police arrested Ingtipi.
However, it has also been learned that Ingtipi had reportedly extorted money from the victims by using the names of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Tuliram Ronghang.
Following the incident, Ingtipi was suspended from the position of the secretary of BJP’s Kisan Morcha.
