Guwahati: Assam police along with Shishu Kalyan Samiti foiled a child marriage bid to marry off a minor in Golaghat district on Thursday.
The incident took place at Bamungaon village.
According to the sources, the marriage between the minor girl and the boy was fixed by their families secretly.
The groom was a resident of Dhekial in the district.
After receiving information, a team of Kamarbandha police along with Samiti reached the spot and took custody of the minor girl.
As per sources, the neighbors kept a watchful eye on the residence of the minor girl after knowing of the planned child marriage.
Meanwhile, police detained the groom for questioning, and the minor girl is taken into the custody of Shishu Kalyan Samiti.
