Guwahati: In a tragic incident, wild tuskers trampled a class 9 student in Assam’s Jorhat district on Tuesday morning.

The incident of elephant trampling death took place at the Bijoypur area of Mariani in the district.

The deceased girl has been identified as Barsha Gogoi.

According to sources, the incident occurred when the mother and the daughter were heading to a nearby safe location. When the mother and daughter were passing by a forest area, the elephants suddenly appeared before them. After seeing the duo, the jumbo became ferocious and attacked the mother and daughter.

Following the incident daughter died on the spot and the mother was severely injured, sources added.

Meanwhile, local police later reached the scene and recovered the body for post-mortem.
