Guwahati: In an initiative to strengthen the sports infrastructure of the state, chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday laid the foundation stone of the upcoming indoor stadium and a stadium of the sports association in Chabua, Dibrugarh.
The minister has announced the construction of the indoor stadium at Rs 2.33 crore while the stadium of the Chabua sports association will be constructed at Rs 9.87 crores.

Taking to Twitter, Sonowal said, “The stadiums will herald a new era of sports infrastructure in Assam.”
The Chief Minister asserted that the youths of the state have been able to excel in various sectors and agriculture sector has seen tremendous growth as a result of the sincere and unprecedented efforts taken up by the present state government.

Sonowal also expressed confidence that the setting up of Chabua Sports Association Stadium and Chabua indoor stadium would greatly contribute in the rapid development of sports in the state and the entire region and establish Assam as the sports capital of the country.
He also highlighted the historic step of providing land pattas to indigenous landless people by the state government as a strong measure to sustain the indigenous people’s control over the state and safeguard their interests while underlining steps such as construction of six new bridges over Brahmaputra, setting up of national institutes like IARI at Gogamukh and AIIMS at Changsari, establishing NID at Jorhat etc. since Prime Minister Modi assumed power.
