Assam CM Walks Down Memory Lane To Relive DHSK College Days

Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal said that the assimilation of education with sports and culture is the need of the hour.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on September 26th, 2019 took a walk down memory lane during his visit to the Dibrugarh Hanumanbax Surajmall Kanoi (DHSK) College. He said that alma mater has been playing a pivotal role in shaping the lives of students of the region.

The DHSK celebrated its Platinum Jubilee on September 26th, 2019 where the former student and Assam Chief Minister was the chief guest.

Sonowal said remembered the golden days as a student while interacting with students, teachers and alumni on the occasion of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations. He said some of his fond memories of his time at the college were being the Gymnasium Secretary and winning the Strongman Award.

It was established on June 15th, 1945 in Dibrugarh. The College is affiliated with Dibrugarh University. It was accredited B++ grade by NAAC in 2017.

Addressing the gathering, Sonowal urged the students to inculcate fitness in their daily lives in the lines of Fit India Movement and contribute towards the nation-building process.

“We passionately followed and played several sports since our childhood. So much so, as a college-going student, we used to prepare our own cricket pitch with the cow dung. This sums up our immense love for the gentleman’s game,” Sonowal said. He emphasised that the assimilation of education with sports and culture is the need of the hour.

“This is a wonderful college. I have spent the golden days of my life at this college. I would say the students who are studying at this college should consider themselves as lucky. I thank all my teachers of this college,” he added.

The Chief Minister also attended the Golden Jubilee celebrations of BVFC Model Higher Secondary School, Namrup. Established in 1969, the premier educational institution has been promoting a healthy academic environment in the region and empowering students to realise their potential, Sonowal said.
