Guwahati: Assam cabinet on Thursday has given its nod to reduce the size of the chief minister’s carcade to only six vehicles from now onwards.
The chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the decision was taken to minimize public inconvenience due to the VIP movements in the state.
“To reduce public inconvenience, chief minister’s carcade to be limited to six vehicles within the Guwhati Metropolitan area and to 12 in other areas or district, excluding escort and pilot vehicle,” said cabinet minister Keshab Mahanta.
To add on to it, during the road travel of the chief minister, traffic will not be disrupted beforehand. “If required, traffic may be paused for a period not exceeding 2 minutes from now,” he added.
Movement of ambulance to get precedence over CM’s carcade and will not be stopped also.
Earlier, during the New Year’s interaction with media persons CM Sarma had informed that he wanted to end the VIP culture in the state and to reduce the size of his entourage too.
A few days back, Sarma reprimanded the deputy commissioner (DC) of Nagaon district for halting traffic for his visit which led to a traffic jam near Gumothagaon on National Highway 37.
