Former three-time Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on January 3rd, 2020, said that the Congress will move a resolution in the special session of the state Legislative Assembly demanding implementation of Assam Accord in letter and spirit.

“We are going to move a resolution in the Special session of Assam Legislative Assembly that Assam Accord should be implemented in letter and spirit. CAA has not only violated the Assam Accord but also various provisions of our constitution,” Gogoi tweeted.

Slamming the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party over the act, the senior Congress leader further said, “The Congress party in Assam will join hands with all anti-CAA forces to fight for the protection of the indigenous people of the state. The BJP is now inviting the illegal foreigners rather than detecting and deporting the infiltrators living in the state as promised in 2014.”

Earlier the day, the state Congress launched a mass signature campaign against the amended Citizenship Act 2019 at Manabendra Sharma complex in the city. State Congress president Ripun Bora also informed that the party would submit a memorandum before the President of India soon to repeal the act.
