Assam: Congress-AIUDF in a fix over Rajya Sabha candidate

Guwahati: After snapping ties following the defeat of ‘Mahajot’ in the last state assembly polls, Congress and All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) were once again trying to forge an understanding in the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls in Assam.

Though there was no official confirmation whether the two parties would bond again, party leaders have been on a constant touch with each other.

On Wednesday, Assam Congress’s Chief Whip Wazed Ali Choudhury informed that AIUDF has requested the Congress to field a minority person for the upcoming RS polls.

“However, I have informed that the decision would be taken by our party high command. Congress has already formed a committee to decide the candidate,” Choudhury said.

Earlier, AIUDF leader Aminul Islam said that talks were ongoing between the two parties and the ‘ice was melting’ in both camps regarding forging an understanding.
