Former minister in three-time Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi’s ministry and veteran Congress leader, Gautam Roy is likely to be suspended by the Congress. The Assam Congress has decided to dash off a letter to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) to suspend Roy for allegedly making remarks agaisnt the party during the Lok Sabha elections.
The decision came days after the Congress leader landed in a controversy where he was seen celebrating the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s victory in the recently declared Lok Sabha elections on May 23rd, 2019.
A video went viral on the social media platforms where Roy was seen distributing sweets and playing with colours as the BJP had a land slight victory in the general elections flooding the internet with speculations if the former Minister would join the BJP. He was also heard raising slogans like “Modi Zindabad”, “Jai Shree Ram” and so on.
Later, Roy was reportedly served a show-cause notice by the APCC where a disciplinary committee was also formed to look into the matter”. It may be mentioned that much ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, speculations were rift that Roy is likely to get a ticket from the saffron political party for the Silchar parliamentary seat.
Congress leader Ramen Borthakur, Dwijen Roy, Partha Pratim Bora and Shehnaz Hoque are also likely to be suspended from the party for their alleged remarks against the Assam Congress president Ripun Bora during the 2019 Lok Sabha election campaign. However, the final decision will be taken in the executive to be held on June 15th, 2019.
