Guwahati: Police personnel were admitted to hospital after being brutally attacked by miscreants in Assam’s Cachar district on Saturday.

The incident took place in front of the Lailapur police station on the Silchar-Aizawl Highway when police were on routine patrolling.

The injured cop has been identified as Rahim Uddin.

As per sources, unidentified miscreants attacked a cop while he tried to conduct a search operation inside a vehicle, which came from Mizoram.

During the search operation, the accused locked the vehicle from inside and started attacking Rahim, sources stated. The miscreants further drove the policeman for about 1 km and later dumped him off on the road and fled from the spot, sources added.

Following the incident, Rahim sustained serious injuries as a result of the attack from the miscreants.

However, he was immediately taken to Dholai Primary Health Centre in critical condition, but later he was shifted to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) for treatment.

Earlier, on April 2, three police officers who went to investigate a vandalism case in a village in Assam’s Jorhat district were allegedly attacked with sticks and stones by a few drunk residents.

The police officers were injured and claimed that the attackers were inebriated.

The incident took place at Borhuj village under the Pulibor police station in the district.
