Guwahati: A hot pursuit by a sleuth of vigilance and anti corruption of state police in Barak valley’s Cachar district on Wednesday resulted in the arrest of one forest range officer.

The accused official identified as Debabrata Gogoi who was the forest range officer, Lakhipur, was arrested on charges of graft.

He had allegedly demanded money from the complainant for getting the latter’s official work done.

Though the anti corruption wing initially laid a trap to catch him, Gogoi on seeing the anti corruption team ran away from his chamber along with bribe money.

However, he caught at a distance about 1 km from range office by the team after a hot chase, said special director general of state police, GP Singh.
