Guwahati: A couple was arrested for allegedly torturing their domestic help, who was a minor girl in Assam’s Golaghat district on Friday.

The incident came to light after the minor’s father lodged a complaint that his daughter was subjected to torture by the couple.

The couple identified as Nirupam Das and Pinky Saikia and was arrested from Moran in the Dibrugarh district.

The couple was arrested based on a complaint lodged on Thursday by the family members of the minor girl at Moranhat Police Station.

According to sources, the victim was working as a domestic servant in the duo’s house since the last one year.

Meanwhile, the victim claimed that for the last four months she was undergoing many atrocities.

However, Pinky Saikia has denied all allegations and termed the incident as a conspiracy.

Nirupam Das works as an official of the Sonari Tea Board, while Pinky Saikia is an employee of the Demow Sericulture department.

The couple was handed over to the Moranhat Police for further investigation.
