Guwahati: Assam’s coronavirus disease (COVID-19) related deaths are inch closer to reach the 1000 mark, according to the latest update provided by the health minister.
The northeast’s most populous state, Assam, is reporting a surge in the COVID-19 related deaths as the current death toll is at 997.
Meanwhile, the state has completed 5 million COVID-19 tests between February 7 to December 8, 2020, averaging 5 lakh tests per month.
State health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed this via Twitter. He wrote, “Together, we are determined to fight the pandemic.”
On Tuesday, the state recorded 94 new cases out of 19,955 tests conducted with a positivity rate of 0.47%.
Among the new cases, 14 were from Kamrup Metro.
With this, the total COVID-19 cases reached 2,14,019, out of which 3,575 are active cases, 997 deaths and 3 migrated to other states.
The state’s recovered percentage is at 97.86%, active cases at 1.67% and deaths at 0.46%.
However, two COVID-19 patients succumbed to the disease on Tuesday. The seceased were identifies as Rudra Khound (75) from Golaghat and Monomai Terangpi (61) of Karbi Anglong.
Minister Sarma took twitter to announce the sad demise of the two patients.
