Guwahati: Assam’s Covid 19 count crossed 50,000-mark on Wednesday with the detection of 2,284 new cases. State’s Covid death toll also shot up to 121 with six more fatalities, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
The latest deceased include an 81-year old man from Kamrup Metropolitan district, two persons from Dibrugarh and one each from Tinsukia, Cachar and Darrang, the Minister informed in a tweet.
However, the health minister expressed his contentment while saying that the state’s Covid 19 positivity rate was just 3.86 percent.
The total positive cases in the state now stood at 50,445, with 34421 recovered and 15900 active cases.
Out of the total Covid 19 cases in the state, at least 2009 were Assam Police personnel. Amongst them, 1413 have recovered, of whom, 546 have rejoined duty.
At least five state police personnel died of Covid 19 so far. Tinsukia Police personnel Bhuban Likson was the latest casualty who died on Wednesday.
Director-General of Police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta tweeted, “All necessary assistance will be provided to the family of our brave #CoronaWarrior, who made the supreme sacrifice”.
