GUWAHATI: Assam Covid 19 cases crossed the 200,000-mark on Saturday, with 642 fresh cases reported.
As per the official statistics shared by state’s health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma the total Covid-19 cases in Assam stood at 200,391 out of which there were some 28,442 active cases.
The Covid-19-related death toll has risen to 865, including 12 new deaths. So far, 171,081 people have recovered from their viral infection, and the recovery rate is 85.37%.
The minister said that Assam’s positivity rate of Covid 19 case has gone down from around 8% in September to around 2% now.
“If we can maintain the trend and people strictly follow the guidelines issued for the ensuing Durga Puja celebration then Assam can improve further. I appeal all to adhere to the Covid19 protocols in puja,” Sarma said.
The state has also decided to reopen the educational institutes from November 2 owing to the declining trend. However, hostels, residential schools to remain shut till December.
Till October 16th 2020, at least 4828 Assam Police personnel have tested Covid 19 positive out of which at least 4736 have recovered. Some 23 police personnel have died in Assam due to coronavirus.
