Guwahati: Acting on specific intelligence, Customs division arrested three persons and seized 68 metric tons of Areca nuts of foreign origin along with three carries trucks on Tuesday from 9th Mile area of Khanapara, Assam.
The seized goods were being transported from Kalain in Cachar district and were on its way to the Bijni and Falakata (West Bengal).
The operation was led by Deputy Commissioner, Guwahati, Om Prakash Tiwary along with a team of officers of Assam Police.
The goods are believed to be smuggled from Myanmar through the Indo-Myanmar border in Mizoram.
The market value of the seized goods is approximately Rs 2.55 crore. However, an investigation is underway.
