Guwahati: In a major breakthrough, Darrang police busted an extortion racket being run by United Liberation Front of India – Independent (ULFA-I) cadre in Assam on Thursday
Assam Police claims to have busted the module suspecting to be of the banned outfit, which was allegedly involved in recruitment and extortion.
Police also said that the members of the module planned to send 10 youth to join the (ULFA-I) training camps in Myanmar around Bihu.
The police have arrested seven cadres, who were identified as Khanindra Kalita, Hiren Kalita, Dharmendra Deka, Bolen Deka, Dhrubajyoti Baishya, Ashim Adhikary, and Prasenjit Saikia.
Prajenjit Saikia was a part of a pro-talk ULFAI faction member. A letter written by Nayan Medhi, a senior leader of (ULFAI) was recovered from him.
Police revealed that they have recovered mobile phones form the accused and they also had direct links with Myanmar based senior leaders of (ULFAI) and was in constant touch with them.
