The acclaimed designer from Assam, Sanjukta Dutta made her debut at the 72nd edition of Cannes Film Festival on May 18th, 2019 with model Ingrida Ilgine.
Ingrida, a makeup artist, stylist and freelance model, sashayed the red carpet wearing a beautiful Assam silk handwoven black gown from Sanjukta Dutta Label. Ingrida is also the ‘Top Model United Kingdom Winner’ and ‘Miss Film Festival International’.
“Too elated to describe…It took me one year to achieve this when last year I missed the bus only because of non-reaching of the dress on time, one year of wait and the commitment of Ishika Chaudhary my red carpet manager, keeping her promises after long one year. A big day for Assamese Paat (Silk), I believe,” Dutta wrote on Facebook.
The 72nd annual Cannes Film Festival is underway since May 14th to 25th, 2019. Over the years, the festival has seen some of the most celebrated films being showcased at the film festival.
Dutta informed that it took around three months to ready the gown. The black colour gown is adorned with japi motifs. “I am extremely happy to get a chance to showcase the Assamese silk at such a global platform. I was selected last year too, but due to some issues, I could not deliver the garment on time. So this year, I have been fortunate enough to showcase the garment. It took around two-three months to prepare the gown. I have used Assamese paat with small japi motifs made of guna,” said Dutta while speaking to TIME8.
