Assam: District admin rescues nine months pregnant woman from Silchar

Guwahati: The Cachar district administration on Tuesday rescued a nine-month pregnant woman from Silchar amid the flooding in Assam.

A plea to rescue and evacuate his 9-month pregnant wife was received from a person at Kanakpur Road, close to Radhamadhav Buniyadi Pathshala School, Rangirkhari, Silchar and it was quickly taken care of, official said.

The impact of current flood and landslide situations are still having a devastating effect on over 41 lakh people in 34 districts of Assam.

After the flood waters of the Kushiyara, Longai, and Singla rivers inundated more portions of the district, affecting more than 1.34 lakh people, the situation with the flooding in Assam’s Karimganj district has worsen.

However, several of the district’s key main roads are now under water due to the flooding.

Assam has seen 82 fatalities from floods and landslides so far this year.

Seven persons have been reported missing as a result of the natural disaster, while 2,31,819 people took shelter in the 810 relief camps in the state, official said.
