Guwahati: A female doctor from Assam was reportedly tested with two different variants of Covid-19, both Alpha and Delta variants, at the same time to possibly become the first person in the country to be infected with two variants simultaneously.

Tests at regional medical research centre (RMRC) in Dibrugarh of Indian Council for Medical Research have shown the results in May.

A RMRC official confirming the report said that despite being fully vaccinated, the doctor got infected by both the Alpha and Delta variants of the virus a month after taking the second dose. She had mild symptoms and had recovered without hospitalisation.

Earlier, a 90-year-old woman in Belgium was reportedly infected by Alpha and Beta –variants of Covid virus simultaneously. She was not vaccinated and died in March 2021.
