Assam Encounter: Drug peddler injured in police firing in Karbi Anglong district
Guwahati: A suspected drug peddler was shot by the Assam Police when he allegedly tried to flee in Karbi Anglong district, official said on Friday.
On Thursday night, while performing a regular search in the Khatkhoti region of the Bokajan sub-division, security apprehended caught the accused.
As a result, personnel seized 40 soap boxes containing around half a kg of heroin worth Rs 3 crore in the international market from his possession, official stated.
During an initial investigation, the arrested person confessed to intended to hand over the boxes to someone in the Sukhanjan region.
According to sources, when a police team was sent to accompany him to the Sukhanjan region, where the accused attempted to flee by attacking a police officer.
The official went on to say that both the trafficker and the injured police officer were transferred to Bokajan Civil Hospital.
Accused and the injured police officer was taken to Bokajan Civil Hospital for treatment.
