Guwahati: Assamese actor Preety Kongona lodged a police complaint on Friday that she has been receiving life-threatening calls and messages for her role in a popular TV serial titled ‘Begum Jaan’.
She has been trolled on social media too by many.
The serial has recently attracted a lot of controversies as many nationalist have alleged that it promoted “Love Jihad” and at many places, many they have protested against it.
At some places, these organisations have filed police complaints against the makers and actors of this serial. They demanded a ban on the serial.
On Friday, the actors filed a complaint with the Dispur Police alleging that she has received death threats from callers recently for her involvement in the serial.
The FIR read, “I’ve received several life threats, warnings of rape and threats of acid attacks. One of the callers said he would throw acid on me and kill me. He also threatened me of rape. Kindly do the needful.”
She also named a few people in her FIR.
As per the introduction given on TV, ‘Begum Jaan’ serial is about a Hindu Brahmin girl who marries a Muslim man, because of which her family and society deny her marriage.
Many organizations alleged that the plot of the serial promoted Love Jihad. They alleged that telecast of the said serial can create unrest among peace-loving citizens and may fuel communal tensions.
