Assam: Ferry service likely to go expensive; Water transport dept proposes hike

Guwahati: Daily transport on river routes of the state were likely to go up by double as the Inland Water Transport Regulatory Authority (IWTRA), Assam has proposed to hike the passenger and goods tariffs of all the ferry services under its Guwahati, Dibrugarh and Silchar divisions.

While the regulatory authority has proposed to hike the current passenger tariff of Rs 2.50 to Rs 5, a bicycle tariff would be Rs 9 from the existing Rs. 4.50. Similarly, fares for transporting a motor cycle or scooter will cost Rs 14 from current Rs 7.

On the other hand, the rates for transport or travel were proposed of a passenger would be higher than double post 8 PM.

The authority has fixed Rs 10 for a passenger, Rs 18 for bicycle, Rs 20 for goods per quintal and Rs 28 for motorcycle or scooter after 8 PM.  

 The authority has also opened an email address [email protected] for commuters to raise any objection within 15 days. If no objection was received the rates would be revised as proposed.
