A total of three persons have lost their lives due to flood and landslide in the districts of Kamrup (M), Golaghat and Dhemaji and the number of population affected in the flood in the 11 districts have swelled upto 2,07,098, as per the latest report by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
A total of 530 villages in 24 revenue circles of 11 districts viz. Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Darrang, Barpeta, Nalbari, Chirang, Golaghat, Majuli, Jorhat and Dibrugarh of Assam have been affected in the second wave of flood. The Brahmaputra river in Jorhat and Sonitpur, Dikhou in Sivasagar, Dhansiri in Golaghat, Jia Bharali in Sonitpur and Beki in Barpeta districts is flowing above danger level, ASDMA report stated.
As many as 13 camps have been set up in Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Golaghat and Jorhat districts with 249 inmates. Around 10 Relief Distribution Centres are operational in the districts of Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Golaghat and Jorhat.
The National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force teams have been pressed into service in the flood-affected areas for search and rescue operation.
