The state’s Health and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also thanked the PM and Shah for releasing the assistance. “I thank Hon PM Narendra Modi and HM Amit Shah for prompt release of Rs 251.55 crore grants-in-aid to Assam towards the central share of SDRF for 2019-20. This shall immensely help in relief operations and mitigating sufferings of people affected by Assam floods,” Sarma tweeted.

A total of 5,259,142 people and 2,344,258 animals across 30 out of 33 districts in Assam have been affected so far as per the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) report. According to official data, five people have died in the flood this year so far while 37 animals have been washed away.
