    Assam Floods: Nine Dead Till Date

    Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also visited Hojai to take stock of the situation

    With Assam being hit by the floods along with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), at least nine human lives were lost during the first wave of the flood.

    As per flood report by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, till June 1 at least three districts including Nagaon, Goalpara and Hojai were heavily affected by the flood.

    In total there are 253 villages affected among which 105 villages are from Goalpara, 103 are from Nagaon and 45 are from Hojai.  At least 1.97 lakh people are still affected in these villages while to provide temporary shelter for the affected ones, the government has set up 45 relief camps.

    In total there are 7,299 inmates in the relief camps who are among the worst-hit persons in the districts.

    Apart from humans, approximately 52 thousand animals have also been affected by the flood report. However, there was no input in particular about animal deaths in the flood.

    Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also visited Hotimoragaon panchayat of Hojai revenue circle and took stock of the flood-affected Rajabari areas of Hojai district.

    He also visited the river Kopili induced erosion hit areas and breached embankment and directed the Water Resources Department to repair the breached areas on a “war footing”.
