Assam Floods: Over 2 Lakh People, 71468 Animals Affected Across 11 Districts

Guwahati, July 10:

A total of 2,07,098 people and 71,468 animals have been affected in the second wave of the flood in across 11 districts in the state, according to Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).

The ASDMA in a press communiqué stated that a total of 530 villages in 24 revenue circles of 11 District are reeling under flood. The affected districts are Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Darrang, Barpeta, Nalbari, Chirang, Golaghat, Majuli, Jorhat and Dibrugarh.

According to the official report, three persons have lost their lives due to flood and landslide in the districts of Kamrup (Metro), Golaghat and Dhemaji.

Due to the incessant rain for the last few days, the Brahmaputra is flowing above danger level in Jorhat and Sonitpur while Dikhou in Sivasagar, Dhansiri in Golaghat, Jia Bharali in Sonitpur and Beki is flowing above danger level in Barpeta district.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams have been pressed into service in the flood-affected areas for search and rescue operation.

A total of 13 camps are operational in Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Golaghat and Jorhat with 249 inmates and 10 Relief Distribution Centres (RDC) in the districts of Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Golaghat and Jorhat.
